Mbongo Tchobi, or Cameroonian Black Soup, comes from the Bassa tribe in Littoral Cameroon. Its dark color and smoky flavor come from burnt spices including mbongo stick, njansang, and country onions, cooked with fish or meat. Traditionally prepared in clay pots, it is a rich cultural dish often enjoyed in Bassa villages.
